FAQ: Wellness Circles
FAQs
1. What exactly is a Wellness Circle?

A Wellness Circle is a guided small-group session where youth or families learn emotional skills, practice mindfulness, build communication tools, and connect with others in a safe, supportive, culturally grounded environment. It is called a “circle” because everyone participates as equals, not because people literally sit in a circle.
2. Are Wellness Circles the same as therapy?
No. Wellness Circles are not therapy. They are non-clinical emotional wellness groups that focus on:
• coping skills
• communication
• mindfulness
• leadership
• confidence
• cultural identity
• healthy relationships
Families seeking deeper therapeutic care can request optional clinical therapy separately.
3. What ages can participate?

We offer Wellness Circles for youth ages 5–17, divided into age-appropriate groups:
• 5–8
• 9–12
• 13–17
We also offer Family Wellness Circles for parents and children together.
4. What happens during a typical session?

Every session follows a consistent structure:
• A short grounding or mindfulness activity
• A focus skill (ex: understanding feelings, communication, coping skills)
• A guided activity or discussion
• Practice time
• A calm closing reflection
Youth never have to share personal information unless they choose to.
5. How big are the groups?
Most circles include 6–12 participants, depending on age and space. This allows for support, attention, and safety.
6. Where are Wellness Circles held?
We use a hybrid and community-based model. Sessions occur in:
• libraries
• community centers
• schools
• partner sites
• virtual platforms
• pop-up locations
We intentionally meet families where they are.
7. Are parents required to stay?
For youth circles (ages 5–17), parents do not need to stay unless the child needs additional support.
Family Wellness Circles require parent participation.
8. Do youth have to talk?
No. Participation is encouraged but never forced. Many youth begin quietly and open up as they feel more comfortable.
9. What topics do Wellness Circles cover?
Topics vary by age, but often include:
• emotional expression
• coping skills
• confidence & identity
• stress management
• communication
• friendship & social skills
• leadership
• cultural pride
• resilience
• problem-solving
All content aligns with the FRTC framework.
10. What should my child bring?
Nothing is required. We provide journals, materials, and any needed supplies. Comfortable clothing is helpful for mindfulness or movement activities.
11. How long is each session?

• Youth: 45–60 minutes
• Teens & Families: 60–75 minutes
12. Are Wellness Circles safe for shy or anxious youth?
Yes. Many youth begin in Wellness Circles precisely because they feel anxious, shy, overwhelmed, or unsure how to express themselves. The environment is calm, welcoming, and pressure-free.
13. How are Wellness Circles connected to the FRTC model?
Every circle follows the Future Rooted Transformation Counseling™ stages:
• Rooted
• Growth
• Transformation
• Claiming the Future
Youth and families learn emotional tools in a structured, culturally grounded way that supports real-life growth.
14. Can a child join if they are already receiving therapy elsewhere?
Absolutely. Circles focus on wellness, not clinical treatment. Children receiving outside therapy often benefit from the additional support and community connections.
15. How do we enroll?
Families can:
• Register online
• Request more information
• Ask for a consultation
