FAQ: Therapy vs. Emotional Wellness & Empowerment

FAQs

1. What is the main difference between therapy and Emotional Wellness & Empowerment?

Therapy is clinical, includes assessment and diagnosis, and focuses on treating mental health concerns.
Emotional Wellness & Empowerment is non-clinical, skill-building support focused on confidence, coping, communication, and emotional growth.

2. Who leads each service?

Therapy is led by Licensed Clinicians (LPC, LCSW, or similarly credentialed professionals).
Emotional Wellness & Empowerment is led by trained Youth Wellness Facilitators who specialize in emotional skills, SEL, and youth development — not clinical treatment.

3. Does Emotional Wellness & Empowerment replace therapy?

No.
It is not a substitute for clinical mental health treatment.
It is an option for youth who need support but do not require therapy.

4. When should a child or teen be referred to therapy instead?

Therapy is recommended when a youth:
• is experiencing significant anxiety, depression, or trauma
• needs formal diagnosis or treatment
• is in crisis or overwhelmed
• exhibits self-harm or safety concerns
• needs deeper one-on-one mental health care

5. When is Emotional Wellness & Empowerment a good fit?

It works well for youth who:
• have big emotions but are not in crisis
• struggle with confidence or communication
• need coping skills
• need social–emotional support
• are adjusting to life changes
• benefit from structured guidance and encouragement

6. Do both services use the FRTC framework?

Yes, but differently.
Therapy uses FRTC clinically, with treatment goals and therapeutic interventions.
Emotional Wellness & Empowerment uses FRTC as a growth pathway — Rooted → Growth → Transformation → Claiming the Future — without clinical diagnosis or treatment.

7. Are both services covered by insurance?

Therapy: Yes, insurance is accepted when applicable.
Emotional Wellness & Empowerment: No, because it is non-clinical.
Families can use memberships, pay-per-session options, a sliding scale, or the YES Program for eligible youth.

8. Can a child do both at the same time?

Yes.
Many families choose both — therapy for deeper issues and empowerment sessions for skill building, leadership, or confidence support.

9. How do families know which option is right?

We offer a free 10–15 minute consultation to help families understand the best fit based on the child’s needs, comfort level, and goals.
